HCL Infosystems Ltd. (HCL Insys), India’s premier Information enabling company, today announced its audited results for the financial year ended June 30, 2005.

 

Consolidated:
The Company has reported consolidated revenue of Rs. 7783.6 crores (USD 1739.7 Mn.) during the year ended 30th June 2005 as against Rs. 4411.8 crores (USD 986.1 Mn.) in the previous year, a growth of 76%. Profit after tax is reported at Rs. 227.7 crores (USD 50.9 Mn.) as against Rs. 175.1 crores (USD 39.1 Mn.) in the previous year, a growth of 30%.

 

The Company has reported consolidated revenue of Rs. 2197.5 crores (USD 491.2 Mn.) during the quarter ended 30th June 2005 as against Rs. 1321.2 (USD 295.3 Mn.) crores in the previous year, a growth of 66%. Profit after tax is reported at Rs. 59.0 crores (USD 13.2 Mn.) as against Rs. 45.9 crores (USD 10.2 Mn.) in the previous year, a growth of 29%.

 

Revenue from the computer systems business is Rs 533.5 crores (USD 119.2 Mn.) as against Rs 390.5 crores (USD 87.3 Mn.) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 37%. Profit before interest and taxes is at Rs 32.0 crores (USD 7.1 Mn.) as against Rs 26.4 crores (USD 5.9 Mn.) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 21%.

 

Revenue from the Office Automation and Telecommunication business is Rs 1655.3 crores (USD 370.0 Mn.) as against Rs 929.8 crores (USD 207.8 Mn.) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 78%. Profit before interest and taxes is at Rs 41.5 crores (USD 9.3 Mn.) as against Rs 28.0 crores (USD 6.3 Mn.) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 48%.

 

Basic EPS during the year ended 30th June 05 is Rs. 13.7 (USD 0.3) per share of Rs. 2/- each as compared to Rs 10.9 (USD 0.2) per share during previous year.

 

The Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of Rs 2/- per fully paid up share, taking the total dividend for the year 2004-05 to 310%.

 

Parent Company:
The turnover of the company on “standalone” basis during the year ended June 30, 2005 is Rs 1967.4 crores (USD 439.7 Mn.) and the Profit after tax is reported at Rs. 132.8 crores (USD 29.6 Mn.). The company reported a turnover of Rs. 533.5 crores (USD 119.2 Mn.) during the quarter ended 30th June 2005.The Profit after tax is reported at Rs. 32.4crores (USD 7.2 Mn.).

During the year, HCL Infosystems received several accolades. Notable among these, IDC reported that the company is no. 1 in Desktop PC sales for the 5th year in a row. As per IDC report, HCL leads the market ahead of the MNC’s, with a market share of 13.7 %, up from 9.2% last year. HCL is leading the consumer PC segment with a market share of 12.8% in 2004, up from 4.9% in 2003. The company has registered an annual growth of over 250% in the consumer PC segment. In commercial PC segment also HCL is number one with a market share of 14.2% in 2004, up from 11.2% in 2003. Thus making HCL the most preferred PC brand in both commercial and consumer segment. HCL’s Infosystems Infiniti Global Line servers received SAP Standard Application Benchmarks Certification thereby becoming the only Indian OEM to get SAP certification on the Infiniti Global Line 4800 TG high performance enterprise server.

 

This year HCL broke the price barrier on personal computers twice. The first launch was ‘EzeeBee Pride’, which is available at a very affordable price of Rs 12,990. Recently, HCL announced the launch of a sub Rs. 10000 PC named ‘PC for India’. With these products, the company now has an extensive product range right from the value for money PC for beginners to the ultimate digital convergence device – Beanstalk Neo

 

Another major development was the unveiling of the RP2 System, conceived by the HCL labs, a technological innovation to solve various power related problems that hinder the PC usage and penetration across the country. It runs on widely and easily available car battery using RP2 technology.

 

Some of the major projects undertaken last year include commissioning of the country’s largest Internet backbone network for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). HCL also formally handed over the largest EPABX installation in the country at IIT Kharagpur, which consisted of 14000 lines providing traditional telephony, IP telephony & ADSL broadband connectivity to the entire campus.

 

In the enterprise space HCL bagged orders from leading Banks, Dept. of Posts, Sun Pharmaceuticals etc. The company also won a very prestigious order from the Punjab Department of School Education to install and maintain the IT Infrastructure in 1,287 government schools both in rural and urban areas across the state of Punjab as part of this project. The company also received large orders for its Enterprise Servers from leading customers such as BSNL, Seimens, RBI etc, to name a few.

 

In the cellular phone business, the country last year saw a big growth in GSM subscribers. The company leveraged its wide reaching distribution channel and support centers to witness an excellent growth in the sales of Nokia phones. A slew of new handset models at various price points including an entry-level color phone at a very attractive price. All this contributed to increase in market share of Nokia GSM phones.

 

On the computing front, Toshiba notebooks continued doing well, with HCL bagging the orders from a number of corporate customers.

 

In the Imaging business, the company bagged prestigious orders from Bharti Infotel, Western Railways, United Nations Development Program etc, to name a few. It also launched Toshiba LCD TV, to further enrich its bouquet of presentation solutions.

 

In the Telecom area, the company bagged a big, first-of-its-kind order from Webel, for a telemedicine project in six locations in the North East, which will touch life of many common Indians in remote areas.
