HCL Infosystems Ltd, India’s premier Information enabling company today announced its un-audited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2005.

 

The company has reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 2284.5 crores (USD 523.7 Mn) during the quarter ended September 30, 2005 as against Rs 1579.5 crores (USD 362.1 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 45%.

 

Profit before tax is reported at Rs 82.0 crores (USD 18.8 Mn) as against Rs 55.4 crores (USD 12.7 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 48%.

 

Profit after tax is reported at Rs 62.1 crores (USD 14.2 Mn) as against Rs 43.2 crores (USD 9.9 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 44%.

 

Revenue from the Computer Systems business is Rs 486.7 crores (USD 111.6 Mn) as against Rs 394.7 crores (USD 90.5 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 23%. Profit before interest and taxes is at Rs 27.4 crores (USD 6.3 Mn) as against Rs 23.6 crores (USD 5.4 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 16%.

 

Revenue from the Office Automation and Telecommunication business is Rs 1791.2 crores (USD 410.6 Mn) as against Rs 1174.7 crores (USD 269.3 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 52%. Profit before interest and taxes is at Rs 47.8 crores (USD 11 Mn) as against Rs 27.3 crores (USD 6.3 Mn) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, a growth of 75%.

 

Consolidated EPS for the quarter is Rs 3.7 (USD 0.084) per share.

The Company had reported consolidated revenue of Rs. 7783.6 crores (USD 1.78 Bn) during the year ended 30th June 2005 and the Profit after tax was reported at Rs. 227.7 crores (USD 52.2 Mn).

 

The Board of Directors has declared a first quarterly Interim dividend of Rs 2/- per share (100 % on an equity share of par value of Rs. 2/- each).

 

Parent Company

The turnover of the company on “standalone” basis during the quarter ended September 30, 2005 is Rs 486.7 crores (USD 111.6 Mn) and the Profit after tax is reported at Rs. 29.8 crores (USD 6.8 Mn).

Announcing the results, Mr. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems, said, “Being India’s largest hardware company, we took the responsibility to lead the industry in taking IT to the common man. This quarter, we undertook several landmark initiatives to reinforce our leadership position in the ICT landscape. We launched a fully functional PC at Rs. 9990/- and announced our foray into the retail segment by launching ‘point of sales’ solutions. ”

 

During the quarter, HCL Infosystems bagged orders for its Enterprise business from the State Bank of India and its subsidiaries, Cognizant Technologies, Dena Bank , Bajaj Auto, Galelio, Geometric etc. to name a few. HCL also completed a pilot for computerization of police stations and has completed the rollout of the computerization project for the district courts of India.

 

This quarter has been special for HCL Infosystems, as it has been given quite a few industry recognitions such as being rated as the No.1 Desktop PC Company by IDC India’s Quarterly PC market tracker report and by the DATAQUEST’ DQTOP-20. The company received the highest ratings of Five Star in the recently released ‘Dataquest-IDC Best Employers Survey’. The PMA Q1 ’05 has ranked the company No.1 in the Digital Projector category including Toshiba & In-focus projectors .The IDC 04-05 surveys have positioned HCL No 1. in Toshiba laser Multi Functional Devices.

 

HCL has been rated among the top three Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers by Communications Today. HCL this quarter has entered in to the area of integrated end to end call centre solutions using IP technology.

 

The GSM communication devices business has done well last quarter and as per the ORG-GFK report for August, Nokia leads the market with a 73% market share.

 

This quarter HCL broke the price barrier on personal computers by launching HCL’s PC for India – a functionally rich PC priced at Rs.9990. This PC is the most affordable PC from the HCL bouquet. With this product, the company now has an extensive product range right from the value for money PC for beginners to the ultimate digital convergence device – Beanstalk Neo.

 

HCL is in the process of upgrading its manufacturing facility to increase its computer manufacturing capacity to one million units by the end of this year from the existing 600,000 units.

 

HCL announced its foray into the retail segment with the launch of HCL’s BeePOS range of solutions – a customized computer based billing solution. These Point-of- Sale billing solutions are designed for various industry verticals like retail, transport, utility etc. and can be integrated with ERP solutions and RFID chips for better supply chain and customer relationship management.
