HCL Infosystems, India’s premier information enabling and integration company, continues to lead the Indian PC industry in terms of total annual shipments of commercial and consumer desktop PCs, as per IDC’s India Quarterly PC Market Tracker, 1Q 2006, May 2006 release. According to the report, HCL recorded an impressive growth during the fiscal in terms of total unit shipments of 32.94% in FY 05-06 (April 2005-March 2006) over FY 04-05 (April 2004-March 2005) as compared to market growth of 20.69%. HCL maintained its leadership position in terms of commercial desktop PC shipments in the Indian market for the fifth year consecutively.

According to IDC’s India Quarterly PC Market Tracker, 1Q 2006, May 2006 release the commercial desktop PC category witnessed a 14.58% year-on-year growth (1Q 2006 over 1Q 2005) with HCL shipments growing at the rate of 25.56% year-on-year (1Q 2006 over 1Q 2005). HCL maintained its leadership position in the commercial desktop PC segment in FY 05-06 in the Indian market.
The report further states that while the consumer desktop PC category witnessed a 32.63% year-on-year growth in unit shipments (FY 05-06 over FY 04-05), HCL shipments in this category grew at a rate of 47.52% (FY 05-06 over FY 04-05).
Besides, according to the company, the introduction of a series of innovative products like the Media Center PC to address the entertainment segment, HCL has undertaken aggressive initiatives to make PCs more affordable and easy to buy, with attractive financing options coupled with them. This has played a significant role in increasing the affordability of PCs amongst the middle class consumer, who up to now, felt that the PC was beyond his reach. As a result, this year witnessed high growth, specifically in the consumer desktop PC segment.
