  • 20th world Economic Forum to be hosted in East Africa for the 1st time

The three day summit will see participation from governments, businesses and thought leaders from around the world.

 

The 20th World Economic Forum is being hosted for the first time in East Africa and is all set to witness participation from more than 200 global leaders. With the theme ‘ Rethinking Africa’s Growth Strategy’ the focus will clearly be on issues which will contribute the most to the growth of the continent and also on efforts to redesign a sustainable roadmap for Africa’s future.  Within the new global economy the summit will also address how African nations are managing relations with key economic partners.

 

On being invited to Co chair the summit, Mr. Chowdhry said “ The Indian experience is the key to the growth chapter of Africa, with the resonating oppurtunities, needs and challenges. Africa is richer than we think and a continent which has tremendous potential.  Local entrepreneurs and foreign investors are building a remarkable spectrum of profitable and sustainable business opportunities in even the most challenging locations. India has to take a role of a mentor collaborating with the huge diaspora driving investment and development in the region.”

 

“I am sure that this forum will play a critical role in bringing together thought leaders from developed and the developing world to create a deeper connect with the African continent and enable greater insight to unlock the region’s potential.”, he added.

 

The World Economic Forum has been working for comprehensive development of the society and the business community at large. Mr. Chowdhry’s expertise could be instrumental in fostering innovative thinking and identifying concrete steps as conclusion of the forum.

 

The discussions at the World Economic Forum – Africa Summit 2010, will revolve around four pillars –

With over three decades of experience in the IT field, Mr. Chowdhry is regarded as one of the founders of IT industry in India and a prolific thought leader, who has played an instrumental role in the evolution of the Indian IT industry. Mr. Chowdhry has been very vocal on policy issues pertaining to the IT sector and his views have been greatly acknowledged across various national and International forums. Recently he was nominated as the Chairman of the IT & hardware Task force set up by the Government of India under the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology. Along with being the Chairman of Board of Governors, IIT- Hyderabad he is also the chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) National Committee on Technology and innovation.
